No less than sixteen athletes from the Racers-UWI camp will be competing in the Adidas Grand Prix at Icahn Stadium in New York this Satuday 9 June.
Without doubt, the headliner will be world champion Yohan Blake in the men’s 100 metres. Other Racers athletes in the large field which will be run in two heats are Daniel Bailey of Antigua and Jamaicans Kemar Bailey-Cole and Jason Young (UWI). Ramone McKenzie will also be in the race.
In the women’s 100 metres, Schillonie Calvert will seek to match strides with Jamaican record-holder and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and top American Carmelita Jeter.
Three men from Racers Track Club will face the starter in the 200 metres: Marvin Anderson, Mario Forsythe and the rapidly-improving Warren Weir. They will face fellow Jamaicans Nickel Ashmeade and Rasheed Dwyer.
The men’s 400 metres field features Jermaine Gonzales (national record-holder), Ricardo Chambers and Allodin Fothergill. On the women’s side, Rosemarie Whyte carries the Racers colours against in-form Jamaicans Novlene Williams-Mills and Patricia Hall (fresh from a new personal best in Oslo).
The 400 metres hurdles for women will feature two women from Racers: Ristananna Tracey and Nickeisha Wilson. The men’s 110 metres high hurdles will see Hansle Parchment (UWI) face a top-class field including Jamaican national record-holder Dwight Thomas and world greats Dayron Robles, David Oliver and Jason Richardson.
Jazeel Murphy runs in the boys’ 100.
