Jazeel Murphy will be trying to make the Jamaican team for the Carifta Junior Games for the last time when he competes in the trials at Kingston’s National Stadium this Saturday and Sunday March 2 and 3. He is entered to compete in the Under-20 100 and 200 metres.
Before joining Racers Track Club, he achieved his best time of 10.25 seconds in the semi-finals of the 100 metres at the World Junior Games in Barcelona last year. In the finals, he finished in fifth position.
At the Carifta Games, his best time over the 100 metres is 10.27: a time he achieved while edging out Kemar Bailey-Cole for the gold medal in the Under-20 category at the 2011 games in Montego Bay. In the 200 metres he has a best time of 20.97, which he recorded while winning the Under-17 event in Vieux Fort, Guadeloupe, in 2009.
Murphy was a member of the Racers Lions team which won the 4×100 metres relay for Clubs in a world-leading time of 38.50 seconds at the Gibson Relays last Saturday.
