Racers To Make Final Flourish at Brussels

By September 5, 2012 No Comments

Racers Track Club is set to end the track season with a flourish at the Memorial Van Damme in Brussels on Friday 7 September. Eight athletes from the club will be taking part at this final stop on the Diamond League tour for 2012.

The men’s 100 metres will see Kenroy Anderson and Kemar Bailey-Cole line up alongside Olympic champion and world record-holder Usain Bolt. This could be Bailey-Cole’s last and best chance to run his first legal sub-10 seconds time before he closes out his season. A victory for Bolt would make him the Diamond League winner for this year.

All eyes will be on Yohan Blake as he returns to the track where he ended his season last year: establishing himself as the second fastest 200 metres runner of all time with his attention-grabbing 19.26 seconds victory. The fans will no doubt be coming to see whether, having set a sizzling personal best of 9.69 in the 100 metres a fortnight ago, he can deliver another personal best performance in the stadion race. He will be accompanied in the race by two of his club-mates: Warren Weir and Jason Young.

The first event on the track in the international section of the meet will be the women’s 400 metres hurdles, where Ristananna Tracey will have the opportunity to test her fitness against a top-class field.

Allodin Fothergill will run in the men’s 400 metres.

The Racers family will also be cheering on our training-park colleague, the UWI’s Hansle Parchment, to see whether he can maintain or even improve his remarkable standard as a top-performing 110-metres hurdler.
