Following their outstanding performance at the Jamaica Invitational in Kingston last Saturday, a big contingent of almost a dozen athletes from Racers Track Club will participate in the first staging of the Cayman Invitational track and field meet at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in the Cayman Islands on Wednesday 9 May.

The brightest star in the group is undoubtedly Yohan Blake, world champion over 100 metres and 2012 world leader over 200 metres. This time he will run the 100 metres, where he will be joined by 20 year-old Kemar Bailey-Cole — fresh from an eye-opening 10.09 seconds last Saturday.

Warren Weir, who ran a personal best 20.21 in the 200 metres at the Kingston meet, will be seeking to make further improvement on his time in Cayman. Accompanying him will be big quarter-miler Jermaine Gonzales, seeking to test his speed.

With Big Gonz out of the 400 metres, the Racers flag will be carried here by young Jermaine Gayle, whose 45.60 was the fastest Jamaican time over the distance last Saturday. The other Racers quarter-milers joining Little Jermaine at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex are: Ricardo Chambers, Allodin Fothergill, Dwight Mullings and Peter Matthews.

Our two female 400-metre hurdlers, Ristananna Tracey and Nickeisha Wilson, complete the party. However, Nickeisha will this time be running the short hurdles — an event in which she is one of the small band of Jamaican sub-13-seconds females.
