The Racers family has had some of its members performing in the first three days of the championships.
DAY ONE:
We saw Usain winning in 10.10, Yohan in 10.12 and Daniel second in 10.34s qualify for the semi-finals of the 100m and Rosemarie Whyte move on to the semi-final of the 400m by winning her heat in 51.38s.
DAY TWO:
All three qualified for the finals of the men’s 100m. Usain and Yohan winning their heat in 10.05 and 9.95s respectively and Daniel placing 4th in 10.14s. Rosemarie’s third place finish of 50.90s was not fast enough to get her into the finals as one of the fastest losers. Jermaine Gonzales takes his place in the semi-finals with a 45.12s win.
The finals of the 100m for men proved to be the most talked about event of the meet so far. The controversial false start rule saw Usain Bolt being disqualified and Yohan Blake going on to win his first World championship medal. This was the gold in a time of 9.92s with a -1.4m/s wind! It does not ease the pain when we think that Usain has the 200m to run, but we have to realize that another of our members, Yohan Blake, needs to be acknowledged as the fastest man in the world! Daniel Bailey was fifth with a time of 10.26s.
DAY THREE:
Josef Robertson, 400m hurdles, starts his event with a third place finish in 50.29s. Jermaine Gonzales makes a convincing run to win his semi-final heat in 44.99s.
