It was a beautiful night and a beautiful setting in the ballroom of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. At 8:30 pm, the live broadcast of the RJR Sportsman and Sportswoman Awards for 2013 began.
No one in the room wondered who would be named the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the year. So when Usain Bolt was named the 53rd Sportsman of the year, it was not a surprise. Once again, Dr. the Hon. Usain St. Leo Bolt, went through the routine he has done so many times, receiving another such award. If any one doubts that he is indeed a living legend, all doubts must now be erased. His name is now so well known that the red line denoting an incorrect spelling when typing in Word, soon will cease to appear after typing Usain.
Racers Track Club is very proud of Usain Bolt.
Racers salutes the other awardees from the club: Warren Weir being named runner-up to the Sportsman of the year, Nicholas Maitland, awarded for his bronze medal at the World University Games, Kerron Stewart and Schillonie Calvert for their part in the gold medal 4X100m relay in Moscow, Kemar Bailey-Cole being a part of the winning 4X100m relay in Moscow and Edino Steele for his leg of the 4X400m silver medal Relay in Moscow.
Racers Track Club also congratulates Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce for receiving the Sportswoman of the year award.
