Bailey-Cole New Personal Best Leads Racers at Development Meet

Kemar Bailey-Cole improved his personal best in the 100 metres to 9.96 seconds (+1.5 wind) while winning his heat at at the JAAA Development Meet at Jamaica’s National Stadium last Saturday, June 8. Second was Warren Weir in a personal best 10.02. Other Racers athletes Jason Young and Kimmari Roach came third and fifth in 10.18 and 10.20 seconds respectively.

Schillonie Calvert did the best time among the women, a season’s best 11.17 (wind +0.5).

In his first race since his early season injury, Yohan Blake clocked 20.72 (wind -0.1) to win the men’s 200 metres. Cache Armbrister and Celia Walters led the women with times of 23.50 and 24.10 respectively (wind -1.3).

Ristananna Tracey did another season’s best in the 400 metres, winning in 52.25 ahead of Rosemarie Whyte (52.89) on her return from injury. Third place went to Bobby-Gaye Wilkins-Gooden in 53.59. Among the men, the best placed Racers athlete was Nicholas Maitland, who posted the second best time of 46.09.

The highlight of the meet, however, was probably Annsert Whyte’s 49.36 seconds in the 400 metres hurdles: a time which surpasses the “A” standard for participation in this summer’s World Championships in Moscow. This is his first year doing this event.
