Usain Bolt has broken another record. The IAAF named him on Saturday 24 November as its Male Athlete of the Year for 2012. This is the fourth time that he was winning this award: one time more than any other athlete. He also won the award in 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Bolt’s only defeats this year were to his Racers team-mate Yohan Blake at the Jamaican National Championships. He turned the tables on Blake at the Olympic Games in London, winning the 100 metres in 9.63 seconds — the second fastest time on record; and the 200 metres in 19.32 — the third fastest time in history. He was also a member of the 36.84 seconds world record-breaking Jamaican 4×100 metres relay team.
