Racers athletes brought some light and warmth to a cold and rainy Zurich track at the Weltklasse Diamond League meeting on Thursday 30 August. They accounted for two meeting records, a second place, two third places and two fourth places.

Yohan Blake won the men’s 100 metres main race in 9.76 seconds (wind +1.4 metres per second) in the rain, in the process breaking another meet record previously held by Asafa Powell. Earlier, his club-mate Kemar Bailey-Cole won the second pre-programme 100 metres race in 10.13 seconds (wind -0.7); Mario Forsythe was fourth in 10.27.

Usain Bolt also set a meeting record in winning the men’s 200 metres in 19.66 seconds in still wind. His club-mates Jason Young and Warren Weir came third and fourth in 20.08 and 20.18. Another Jamaican, Nickel Ashmeade, came second in a personal best 19.85.

Rosemarie Whyte ran a courageous 400 metres from the outside lane but was passed just before the line by Olympic Champion Sanya Richards-Ross and World Champion Amantle Montsho, coming in third in 50.41 and ending up fourth overall in the Diamond League rankings.

The evening ended with a Jamaican team made up entirely of Racers athletes (Mario Forsythe, Jason Young, Warren Weir and Kemar Bailey-Cole) coming second in the international 4×100 metres relay in 38.19, behind the USA (38.02) and ahead of Great Britain.
