Annsert Whyte, who took up the event just this season, has run the 400-metre hurdles in less than 50 seconds for the first time. This he did when he ran 49.98 to post the fastest time at the second JAAA Olympic Development Meet at Jamaica’s National Stadium on Saturday 18 May.

He has steadily improved his times since his first race at the UWI Invitational on 23 March, when he fell and did not finish the race. At the UTech Classic on 13 April he ran 50.79; lowering that time to 50.19 at the first JAAA Olympic Development Meet last week, before his 49.98 a week later.

Once he has overcome his many technical flaws, who knows how fast, he can really go?
