Victories by Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake and Kemar Bailey-Cole’s first legal sub-10 seconds 100 metres run were the highlights of performances by athletes from Racers Track Club as they brought down the curtain on their season at the Memorial Van Damme, the final meeting of the Diamond League tour, in the King Baudoin Stadium in Brussels on Friday 7 September.

The men’s 100 metres was won by Usain Bolt in 9.87 seconds (wind +0.3 metres/second). Kemar Bailey-Cole was edged into third place by another Jamaican, Nesta Carter, by one-hundredth of a second but Bailey-Cole’s time of 9.97 was a personal best and was the first time he was going under the 10-second barrier without an aiding wind. Kenroy Anderson came ninth in 10.32. Bolt’s victory also ensured him the Diamond League title over the distance.

Yohan Blake won the men’s 200 metres in 19.54 seconds (wind 0.0), his third best time over the distance. Jason Young came second in 19.92. Warren Weir was fourth in 20.22.

Ristananna Tracey led the field in the women’s 400 metres hurdles but faded in the final straight to end up seventh in 56.86 after Mealine Walker was disqualified. Kaliese Spencer won the race to confirm her status as Diamond League champion.

Allodin Fothergill came eighth in the men’s 400 metres in 45.87.

The UWI’s Hansle Parchment, who shares training facilities with Racers, showed consistent form in the men’s 110 metres hurdles in 13.14 seconds (wind +0.3). However, he will long remember this race as it was won in a world-record time of 12.80 seconds by Aries Merritt: seven-hundredths of a second faster than the previous record.
